Biography

Mikko Aaltio is a Finnish composer for film, TV and videogames, music producer and multi-instrumentalist, known for his melodic, minimalist and organic scores. In his music, Mikko likes to draw from his vast knowledge of different musical styles ranging from orchestral to synthscapes and folk music to metal. He plays guitars, woodwinds, keyboards and the cello and also sings on his compositions.

Mikko’s scoring credits include Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE’s Gen Z drama series NO SHAME, Polish family drama INVISIBLE SISTER, Finnish coming-of-age drama PIHOILLA KAIKUU, and Finnish documentary ISOT TISSIT selected for Tampere Film Festival. His scores can also be heard in indie videogames BIRDS ORGANIZED NEATLY and FEED ALL MONSTERS, by German DU&I game studio, and DEALER’S LIFE LEGEND by Italian Abyte Entertainment game studio.

As arranger and orchestrator, Mikko has worked on many high-profile projects such as Netflix’s FINDING ‘OHANA and the Finnish F2P mega-hit mobile videogames CLASH OF CLANS and MERGE MANSION. Outside media music, Mikko works with Finnish A-list pop stars, such as Jarkko Ahola and Waltteri Torikka, to write symphonic arrangements for their repertoire performed both in the studio and on stage. Mikko is currently arranging and orchestrating the Finnish BOSSLADY musical written by legendary Finnish rock artist Maija Vilkkumaa and musical composer Eeva Kontu.

Mikko began his professional music career as the guitarist-saxophonist-flautist-background singer of TIISU, a band with millions of streams on Spotify and Youtube and called "the saviour of Finnish rock" by many a music journalist. After ten years of touring the biggest rock clubs and festivals in Finland, the multi-instrumentalist decided to leave the band to focus solely on composing music for media.

A Film Scoring Academy of Europe graduate, Mikko is based in Helsinki, Finland but works and travels internationally.
